AI Search, Investor Education and Professional Responsibility

Page last updated October 2, 2026

Live webinar: Thursday, October 22, 2026, 4:00–5:00 p.m. Eastern.

CFP Board’s public-policy priorities recognize financial education as a way to help consumers avoid fraud and achieve their financial goals. That is the stuff of this class.

Financial professionals can advance public knowledge of personal financial management by making trustworthy educational information accessible through AI search engines.

This one-hour class, planned for one credit subject to approval, is led by  Simona Ondrejkova, CFP®.  Simona spent eight years at a large brokerage as the financial planning professional in a wealth management team, before quitting to consult and write financial SEO copy for wealth management firms.

The class makes participants mindful of the requirements for accuracy, context, and disclosures when posting financial planning information with answers for AI search engines.

Participants learn to identify what consumers want to know, explain financial concepts in plain language, support answers with reliable evidence, and organize information so people and AI search engines can find, interpret, and cite it.

Practical financial-planning examples show how to identify and correct misleading or incomplete answers, distinguish general education from personalized advice, and apply procedures for professional review, documentation, and ongoing updates.

To put these responsibilities into practice, participants examine the following AEO techniques for making accurate financial education easier for consumers to find and understand:

 · identify what financial-consumers really want to know
 · create concise, answer-first content
 · add original evidence
 · provide professional context
 · strengthen author and entity trust signals
 · apply structured data responsibly
 · manage crawler access
 · measure AI-search visibility

By the end of this class, participants learn to:

  • Explain how the financial-planning process connects with a client’s circumstances, goals, analysis, recommendations, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Distinguish general financial education, individualized financial advice and promotional communications.
  • Identify recurring consumer questions that can be answered with accurate and appropriately scoped financial-planning information.
  • Explain how competence, compensation, conflicts, disclosure and fiduciary standards affect client and public-facing communications.
  • Determine when an online statement requires substantiation, qualification, source attribution, disclosure or firm approval.
  • Convert a financial-planning concept into answer-first, plain-language content that identifies assumptions, limitations and when personalized advice may be necessary.
  • Evaluate the authority, currency, relevance and limitations of sources used in financial-planning content.
  • Identify inaccuracies, omissions, unsupported claims and potentially misleading implications in AI-generated financial information.
  • Develop procedures for approval, recordkeeping, periodic review, correction and updating of public educational content.
  • Explain how crawlability, structured content and clear author identification may improve discoverability without implying endorsement, guaranteed ranking or professional suitability.

The class concludes with a concrete  improvement plan.

Participants leave with a strategy for spreading knowledge about the financial planning process to financial consumers and more discoverable across conventional search engines, AI-generated answers, and voice interfaces while meeting accuracy, bookkeeping and compliance requirements.
