Class Overview

This course provides financial professionals with an in-depth analysis of current economic conditions, market trends, and investment strategies.

Participants explore key economic indicators, including job formation, inflation trends, consumer spending, and the impact of tariffs on GDP growth.

The course also examines stock market performance, earnings growth projections, and valuation metrics to assess investment opportunities and risks.

Additionally, fiscal policy concerns, including the federal deficit and tax policy implications, are discussed to provide insight into long-term economic stability.

By the end of the course, practitioners gain a better understanding of economic forces shaping financial markets and how to apply this knowledge to investment decision-making.

Issues asked about on the scored assessment are:

Stock market downturn and economic uncertainty.  Markets react negatively to uncertainty in taxes, tariffs, and immigration.

Impact of tariffs on U.S. economy.  Tariffs increase inflation and reduce economic output and GDP growth.

Retail sales and economic indicators.  Weak retail sales and GDPNow forecast raised concerns about economic growth.

Housing market and construction trends.  Housing shortages and high mortgage rates affect construction and demand.

Job market trends and employment data
Job formation remains steady despite layoffs and economic uncertainties.

Consumer spending and wealth effect.  Wealthier consumers drive spending due to strong household net worth.

Stock market performance and valuations.  Earnings growth expectations drive market trends despite high valuations.

Inflation and Federal Reserve policy.  Inflation has cooled, but shelter costs keep CPI slightly elevated.

Federal deficit and national debt concerns.  Growing deficits and spending trends pose long-term fiscal challenges.

Active vs. passive investment strategies.  Most active managers underperform index funds over long-term periods.
